Xbox 360 Repair: Opening the Console
Well, I had to fix my 360 again last night, so I chose to film a video about repairing it. The first step is obviously getting it open, and the Xbox 360 isn’t just held together with screws, so you’ll probably need some kind of guide to get it open (I know I did). You’ll need some screwdrivers, mainly a small flat one and a Torx T10 (for other parts you’ll also need a T8, such as to remove the ring of light/power button board or the X clamps). As for those asking for step 2, I don’t reckon I can make one. Sorry. For one, I’m now in college so I have a lot of work to do and 2, my last fix attempt was 4 months ago, and luckily for me (sadly for you) my 360 has been running fantastic ever since. I reckon I finally got it 100% fixed, so that means I won’t be opening it up to film part 2. Doesn’t matter, as there are plenty of RROD fix videos out there already, just look for them.

It’s pretty hard to re-insert a disc tray after ripping it out. We had a PC in our robotics lab that the disc drive kept going in and out, the tray was out of alignment and I couldn’t get it to go in straight because the gears shifted, so I finished up wiring into the “tray closed” switch so I could manually force the drive to reckon it was closed (the tray never detected when it closed). I would say replace the drive mechanism with one from a replacement drive.
Is it possible to fix the disc tray? When i press “open” , the disc tray always jams up. So i “accidently” (slight rage) pulled the disc tray a *small* to hard and it came out my xbox.. then i procceded to place the disc tray back into the xbox, it didn’t go in smoothly , I kinda had to force it in. Ok the disc tray is still jamming up.. But Now it seems I hurt my xbox even further. Now it has distress loading my games..and i get Errors..fml ..please help.(just got battlefieldBC2)FUC!
I don’t have the ring of death but the xbox is making noise because the disk slipped out of the tray while it was in the xbox. Could I open the component where the disk goes in.
Your fucked

The black screws hold the X-clamps and motherboard in. You can remove them (as well as the other Torx screws holding the motherboard) to clean underneath the board. But, if you remove the X-clamps you ruin the thermal paste and will have to clean the chips+heatsinks and re-apply new paste. If you have it apart this really isn’t a terrible thought, the stock thermal paste isn’t very excellent and switching to something like Arctic Silver 5 increases cooling.
i riped out the door on mistak hellppppp plz plz
Yeh not until you do all that crap…
Yeh it will, you need to open up the disc tray once you get it out, then buff the laser with a q-tip or something.

Thanks a lot for posting this! Our xbox was a biggg dust machine. I do appreciate the typed out words verses actual talking, which makes it way simpler because you can pause, read your instructions, and work on your xbox! Fantastic video quality as well. Thanks again!!
