Sadly my Xbox 360 red ringed and I have been doing a whole lot of research to try and fix it myself because the warranty is over. Through my journey to fix my xbox I read about the prospect of your xbox live account being banned if you try and fix your xbox yourself. Has anyone heard about this? Does this apply to fixing Red Ring Of Death at home or does Microsoft consider it a modification? I would rather save up for another xbox than have all of my information erased.

Watchdog reports on the 3 red lights of death problem with Microsoft’s Xbox 360. I myself am on my third Xbox 360, the first I bought at launch lasted several months and after numerous “freezing” problems it gave the Ring Of Death. M’Soft replaced this console with a refurbished unit which didn’t last a month before, yeah you guessed, 3 red lights. Yet again this one was replaced by Microsoft and fingers crossed it will last now as it’s out of warranty BUT I have had the E67 a couple of times in the last month, not looking excellent. Get it sorted Microsoft.
If you buy an already red-ringed Xbox 360 console as-is, for eBay or the like, will the console still be eligible for the free repair offered by Microsoft for consoles showing that error?
