Can an XBox Red Ring of Death be temporary?

Author: adminI have an XBbox 360 and today I got a red ring of death. I restarted the machine and it worked fine, restarted it again and got another red ring of death. I waited a few hours and the system again worked normally, no freeze ups or rings. Is it normal for an XBox 360 to occasionally get a red ring of death but not be really broken? Am I just getting lucky by having a broken machine play on occasion? Should I still consider buying a replacement?

It is normal in fact, but you should consider getting another one because sometimes when you get the red ring, it stays there. You were lucky.
It’ll stop working completely sooner or late. You’re getting lucky that it turns on occasion. You don’t need to necessarily buy a replacement though, depending on how long ago you got it, Microsoft may still repair it for free.
Yeah sometimes i get it like 3 times a day, and sometimes i don’t get it for 6 months.
it happens sometimes but all it means is that soon within a week or so your going to get it permanently. so what i would do is call up Microsoft and register a repair. by the time it stops working,you’ll have the box and everything to ship it out. you’ll waste less time this way.
send it back to Microsoft.
I also heard if u wrap it in blankets it helps.

i reckon u should Replace it and i dont reckon its temporary im not 100% sure tho my friend fixd his Red ring ( i reckon ) but i dont know if hes a liar
just send it too microsoft. if its out of warrenty tell them to make better gaming systems and let me know what they say ha ha
No, your xbox is broken, but microsoft can easily fix it if you send it to them. go to their website for further instruction. I did this, and my xbox was back to me in 2 weeks!

If it is really red rings than it is not temporary and it wont change. Although you may see them try unplugging the power cable and plugging it back in. Waiting 5 Min for to turn it on. So it could also be the Xbox overheating which takes time to cool down. Place the Xbox in a well ventilated place like a table rather than a shelf. Ps: dont buy an cooling fan it’ll melt your xbox.
ya it happens sometimes but you should give it like two days rest and then play. It is temporary sometimes i have the same problems too.
dont listen to that other messege cause wi’s suck and yes mine was but in most cases its permanent 40 bucks with warranty for repair 99 without warranty 4 repair(call 18004myxbox) and its free repair if you got it from wal mart
ye its normal. Theres a certain amount though. If you get 4 (i reckon) then that means its just a disk error. 3 (i reckon) means the x box crashed and simply resetting it will fix it but 2 means the system is fried. I may have those numbers mixed up but dont worry i know people who know how to fix that anyways so dont worry. Im sure there are people in your area who can fix it or if its really a problem call the support line, or if u have a warranty exchange it for a new one
If your warranty still covers you be sure to use it before your temporary problem becomes a permanent one. You can always fix it yourself, but if you aren’t excellent with DIY stuff better keep away from it.

I got the same problem and it last a couple weeks just send it and the will fix it up! it usually takes a week to 3 weeks. Excellent luck with it
you dont need a replacement just call Microsoft and they will send you the latest model unless you got one of the original ones then they send you a new ancient one so yeah PS it is going to get worse call soon

I’ve had my 360 since Christmas 2007 and never had a RRoD yet, but I keep mine horizontal, with both the system and power brick out in the open on top of marble drink coasters. That way they have breathing room. With the rubber feet, the marble may not wick much (or any) heat away, but it looks nice. = )
From what I know, RRoD is a heat issue due to terrible airflow and heatsinks. It causes the board to flex and mess up some solder joints. That’s why the “wrap it” method seems to work; the system gets hot enough to “re-solder” the terrible connections. I wouldn’t try it though…MS can tell if you send it in and you have to pay for the repair (since you voided the warranty).
Your best bet is just to contact MS and get an RMA for the repair.
Usually it does that for a while and then goes permanent. When i had it on my ancient one i found this fantastic thing on the internet that worked. you wrap the xbox in two towels and turn it on. leave it for 15 mins and then turn it off and leave it for 15 mins again. and then it works fine! Unfortunately though this only works for a month or so.

I dont reckon it’s temporary. .. but you could fix it in less than an hour, without having to send it to microsoft
